Authorship contributions

Authorship contributions are accepted on the understanding that the authors have obtained the necessary permission for publication. Authorship credit is based on significant contribution to (a) conception of idea and method design or analysis of results and interpretation of data (b) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content and scientific rigour. Participation solely in the acquisition of funding or the collection of data or secretarial aid, does not justify authorship. Any part of an article critical to the main conclusions must be the responsibility of at least one author. Submission of an article is understood that it is not being submitted or considered for publication elsewhere. The author’s permission to publish his/her article in this journal implies exclusive authorization to the publisher to deal with all issues concerning copyright therein.

Requirements for original research articles

The decision to accept a contribution rests with the editorial board, which reserves the right to make alterations in manuscript submitted for publication, if they do not conform with accepted scientific standard or if they are too repetitive. The author needs to confirm to his /her own area of expertise pertaining to the theory or grounds of knowledge covered and must incorporate a chronological arrangement of ideas and methods when reporting on the research done.

Preparation of manuscript 

The Manuscript should be typed in Times New Roman font, double-spaced on standard-sized – A4 paper with 1 inch margins on all sides with 12 pt. font size. Authors should take care of the fonts which are used in the document, including fonts within graphics. Manuscript file format should be in .doc/.docx. Note that PDF format is not acceptable.

The main text of the article should start with title, author’s name, institute name and address, email address, phone and fax number of corresponding author on one title page, followed by abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments, conflict of interest and references. The tables and figures along with legends should be enclosed in a separate word file. The title page is must for all types of manuscripts, including short notes and review articles.

General manuscript body guidelines

1. The submission must include continuous line numbers in the manuscript body file.
2. Use abbreviations sparingly and define them at the first insertion in the text. Define all abbreviations used in tables within the table footnotes.
3. Use the metric system for all measurements. Express metric abbreviations in lowercase letters without periods (centimetre – cm, millilitre- mL, hour- h, minute- m, second- sec).
4. Define all symbols used in equations and formulas. When symbols are used extensively, the authors may include a list of all symbols in a table.
5. Specification of instruments with model number should be reported to reflect the precision of the instrumentation utilized. Numerical values should be covered up to maximum 3 digits after decimal.
6. In the manuscript body authors should strictly follow the instructions as below:

• Title: 14 pt. font, bold, upper case.
• All Side headings: 12 pt. font, bold, upper case.
• All subheadings: 12 pt. font, bold, sentence case.
• All sub of subheadings: 12 pt. font, sentence case, italic.
• All references in the manuscript body should be mentioned as numbers in superscript form wherever cited and mentioned.

1. Title page

The title page must be submitted as a separate file and should include:

1. The title of the article (14 pt. font size, upper case and bold)
2. Author names with full first name (no degrees),
3. Each author’s affiliation, and
4. A suggested running title for the manuscript (of less than 50 characters, including spaces).

The affiliation should comprise the department, institution (usually university or company), city, and state (or nation) and should be typed as a footnote to the author’s name. For the corresponding author designated to correspond with the RJPLS Editorial Office and review proofs, indicate his/her complete mailing address, office/cellular telephone number, fax number, and email address.

2. Abstracts

The abstract is limited to maximum 250 words. For original research articles, the abstract should include a brief (2 to 3 sentence) statement for each of the following sections: aim and objective, materials and methods, results, discussion and conclusions, written in paragraph form. All abstracts must be written in one paragraph, with no subheadings, equations, tables, reference citations, or graphics. The abstract must state the significance of the manuscript and the problem or question being addressed in the first sentence; what you found (include key data numbers); and what you conclude.

3. Key words and phrases

To identify the most important subjects covered by the article; authors are instructed to give not more than 5-6 key words.

4. Introduction

The introduction must define the scope of your paper; articulate the question or hypothesis; summarize relevant work to the study being reported; and inform the reader on the rationale and significance of the study. Required for reviews, mini-reviews, original research articles, and meeting reports only.

5. Materials and methods

Materials and Methods should be presented with sufficient clarity and detail. This section in full length papers should include concise details on the materials used and methodology adopted. Data must be adequate and experimental design should be proper and accurate. Describe new or substantially modified methods giving reasons for using them and evaluate their limitations. All physical and spectral data should be reported. Method of analysis should be validated. Experiments on human subjects are to be done in accordance with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) protocol or approved by an Institutional Ethical committee. A copy of approval by the IEC/IRB (Institutional Review Board) must be attached. For the care and use of laboratory animals, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India has notified guidelines titled “Breeding of and Experiments on Animals (Control and Supervision) Rules, 1998′ (under notification. No. SO 1074 dated 15th December 1998) the Indian National Science Academy or Institutional Animals Ethics Committee guidelines should be followed. Further, the latest Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), issued by the Animal Welfare Division of Ministry of Environment and Forests, January 2010 must be followed. All possible effort must be made to give mechanism of reactions. Use System International (SI) Measurements. In case of work related to plant materials, a sample of the authentic materials is to be deposited at any one of the designated institutions and their accession number or a reference of the same be quoted in the manuscript. Rationale for selection of certain solvent extracts of the herbs / plants along with characterization (by way of spot tests, TLC pattern etc.) of such extracts evaluated for any activity should form part of the manuscript. Use of positive and negative controls in experiments should be highlighted.

6. Results

The original and important findings should be stated in a logical sequence. Illustrate the results with figures or tables where necessary, but both must be kept to the minimum. Emphasize or summarise only important observations. Result must be precise and comprehensive and should not be ambiguous.

7. Discussion

In this section, preferably separate from the results section, explain what your findings mean, using the literature in great detail to compare and contrast your data with literature; use the literature as evidence to support your assertion. Explain the significance of your results and their practical implications.

Recommended maximum word counts are as follows:

1. Reviews, original research articles, meeting reports, and white papers: 5,000
2. Mini-reviews: 2,500
3. Short communications, brief reports and conference proceedings: 1,200

8. Conclusions

Explain on whether your findings support your hypothesis and scope of the work.

9. Acknowledgements

Sources of support in the form of grants, equipment, drugs as gift samples may be included. Only scientific personnel who have made substantial and essential contributions to the study should be acknowledged and not institutional heads and others. Authors must state clearly the name and address of the expert (for botanical verification) who has authenticated the plant material, or botanical specimen. Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission from all acknowledged by name because readers may infer their endorsement of the data and conclusions.

10. References

References should conform to Vancouver style and be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first cited in the text. Cite in the text by the appropriate Arabic numeral enclosed in parentheses, e.g., (1), (2-5), etc. References to unpublished, peer-reviewed, personal communications, including conference abstracts and papers in preparation or in review, cannot be listed but can be notated parenthetically in the text. Tables

Tables must be created in Microsoft Word table format. Tables should be numbered (with Arabic numerals) and referred to by number in the text. Data must be placed in separate cells of the table to prevent text and numbers from shifting when the table is converted for publication on the Internet. Empty cells may be inserted to create spacing. Tables should not duplicate information provided in the text. Instead, tables should be used to provide additional information that illustrates or expands on a specific point the author wishes to make. Each table should be self-explanatory.

Figures

RJPLS offers authors the use of colour figures in online published manuscripts, free of charge. Figures (as well as photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts) are to be numbered sequential Roman numerals. The description of each figure should be separated from the manuscript body text and collated in a separate file called “Legend to Figures.” All electronic artwork must be submitted online via our online peer review tracking system, Editorial Manager. Figure files should be submitted in TIFF or EPS format (1200 dpi for line drawings and 300 dpi for half-tones and grey-scale art); however, JPG/JPEG, GIF and BMP files may also be submitted as long as the dpi specifications above are met. Use of a professional graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop to edit and/or save photographs and graphics is highly recommended. Because of quality issues, it is not recommended that images be submitted in DOC, DOCX, PPT, or PPTX format.

Cover letter

A cover letter is required to submit along with the manuscript for rapid processing of the manuscript and further communication. Authors who wish to submit names and email addresses of recommended reviewers for the peer review process may indicate those in the cover letter or during the submission process.

Abbreviated names

Abbreviated names of cited journals should be as per Chemical Abstracts or IUPAC. All botanical nomenclature should be as per International Code of Botanical Nomenclature.

The ultimate criterion for a paper’s acceptability is that an informed reader is likely to learn something new that contributes to the development of coherent bodies of knowledge.

Galley proofs

Galley proof will be sent to the e-mail address given for correspondence. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to ensure that the galley proofs are returned without delay.

Reprints

A complete printed copy of the issue will be sent to the corresponding author with condition and prior payment of processing and postal charges.
